OUR MISSION
To provide support and positive adult connection to all mentees and their families
Method
With a heart for service, and decades of working with children and their families, Next Generation Mentoring Youth Program (NGMYP) was created on the principle that every day given to us, is an opportunity to make a difference. We approach life with purpose and commit to being the change that we want to see.
Mentorship
Our mentors are compassionate about helping teens realize that the person they will be in the future depends on everything they do today. And although we are not defined by our past, if we do not change our focus, then our past will always affect our future. We work with the end goal in mind as we pursue positive change.
Model
We understand the power of hope and faith. If our mentees are willing to take the first step, we are here to support them all the way. Our goal is to model appropriate behaviors, build self-esteem, teach life skills, and ensure our teens gets the help they need to be who they were created to be not who others believe they are.
Our Team
Sharmaine Brann-James (Lead Mentor)
Ms. Brann-James has an extensive history of working with children and their families. Her passion for helping youths in the Child Welfare System of Care gives her a personal and unique method of assisting young teens who desire change. Ms. Brann-James has personally helped teen survivors of Human Trafficking reach milestones such as graduating high school, graduating alternative school, receiving admittance into college, into Job Corps, obtaining employment, and even locating housing.
Ashley James (Manager)
Ms. James is a communication graduate of the University of Tampa and has extensive experience in producing and project coordinating. Her experience in coordinating logistics for large companies and brands led her to be an excellent manager for NGM Youth Program. Always finding the good in everyone she meets, Ms. James is dedicated to putting the needs of others before her own. As the owner of multiple companies, Ms. James has a vision of being able to meet people where they are and providing for their individual needs.
Shanta Gaters (Mentor)
Ms. Gaters is a graduate of Florida A&M University with a major in psychology. Her experience includes working with children who exhibit extremely challenging behaviors. However, Ms. Gaters realized early on that every child and every youth has a chance to be great, and continues to embody that belief in everything she does. Modeling patience, servitude, and integrity in her work, Ms. Gaters is an excellent resource for creating positive change.
Parents of Human Trafficking Survivors
NGM Youth Program is more than just a cohort of mentors and counselors but also a community of survivors. No one who desires to move forward in life will have to walk that path alone. We are all here to guide individuals every step of the way for as far as they choose to travel in their journey.
